Power Requirements
Marshall devices need a 24V power source rated at a minimum of 1.5A. 12V is not enough. At that voltage the device struggles to tell a0 from a
1, which corrupts packets in both directions, triggers retries, and produces
CRC errors. Power-up draws a spike of current, so a 12V supply can also crash
the device partway through boot. A Chipi-X adapter draws power of its own,
which makes 12V even less likely to hold up.
Serial Interface
The Marshall line is true RS232 with a level shifter, not UART signals at 5V or 3.3V. The RS-232 standard specifies −15V to −3V and +3V to +15V. The components Nayax uses operate at roughly ±7V. No hardware handshaking is needed. The interface uses only RxD, TxD, and GnD, so RTS and CTS can be left unconnected.Power Consumption

Which of the technologies below applies to you depends on the cards your deployment issues. Nayax readers accept both swipe (magstripe) and RFID cards. The reader works at 13.56 MHz and supports ISO 14443 Type A and Type B cards, such as MiFare Classic and MiFare Plus, as well as ISO 15693 cards, such as HID iClass. The most common RFID card used with Nayax readers is MiFare Classic 1K or 4K. Magstripe cards are supported when they follow a non credit card standard, which means the card data contains no= character and the UID length is between 4
and 40. Cards that fall outside those limits can still be supported, but doing
so may require an additional integration through
Cortina Prepaid.
