Knowing which update sequence to expect matters most while the update is
running, because on some models a normal update looks like a failure.
Update Process by Device Model
Find your device below before starting an update, so you know what the screen
should do and roughly how long to wait.
How a firmware update runs depends on the device model. VPOST, Onyx, and
VPOS Media 4S updates start from Nayax Core. VPOS Media 5 updates start from
CasHub, a separate site.
VPOST and Onyx
The update starts from Nayax Core and runs in two parts: the MAIN update and
the POS update.
During the MAIN update, the screen shows gloader at the top along with a
percentage. When that part finishes, the device resets itself and starts
downloading and installing the POS part. The screen goes black while the POS is
erased and rewritten. Once everything completes, the device powers up on its own
and returns to idle mode.
Do not disconnect the device until it resets. The black screen during the
POS update is expected, not a failure. Interrupting the update at this point
can leave the device in an unusable state.
The full process usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, and longer over Ethernet.
The update starts from Nayax Core, as it does for VPOST and Onyx, but it runs as
a single part rather than two.
The download runs in the background, so consumers can keep using the device
while it happens. Once the download completes, the device starts the
installation on its own and shows an installation screen with the current
progress.
The update starts from CasHub instead of Nayax Core, and each app is updated
individually rather than as one package.
Every app takes two separate actions: the download, and then the update. Once
the download finishes, your local support contact has to send the device a
request to start the update for the apps you want. How long the whole process
takes varies with the packages involved and their versions.
